Our Kokoda adventure kicks off with an early flight from Cairns to Port Moresby, where we meet our local crew and hit the road for a scenic 2.5-hour drive to Owers Corner. Along the way, we pause at the Bomana War Cemetery to honour the fallen. After lunch and a group photo under the iconic arches, the real journey begins as we descend into the jungle toward the Goldie River and set up camp for our first night under the stars.

Goldie River – Ioribaiwa Village
12.5 km / 9 hrs — B L D
After breakfast, we hit the trail, passing Goodwater Camp before climbing the iconic Golden Stairs to Imita Ridge, the Australians’ final defensive line. We then descend into the jungle, crossing the crystal-clear Ua-Ule Creek multiple times before stopping for lunch. In the afternoon, we take on the challenging ascent to Ioribaiwa Ridge, arriving at the stunning Ioribaiwa Village where we camp for the night, with sweeping views back to where we began.

This morning, we visit the Ioribaiwa battle site – the furthest point of the Japanese advance where we explore relics and hear stories of the fierce fighting. We then descend to Ofi Creek, learning about the daring Australian ambush that used food as bait. As the day cools, we take on the steep climb over the Maguli Range, stopping at a Japanese gun position and pausing for lunch at Banana Camp. Our final climb takes us to Diggers Camp, a historic and cool mountain campsite for the night.
